Houston Rockets Attempting To Regain Playoff Success Of The Past

The Houston Rockets do not have much to celebrate these days. The only celebration one saw was the Rockets hanging a banner during their last regular season home game to honor general manager Carroll Dawson who is retiring.

The Rockets have not won a playoff series since 1997. After winning back to back championships in 1994 and 1995, the Rockets are now the third best team in their own state, behind Dallas and San Antonio.

This year, the Rockets open the playoffs against Utah. It is an important moment not just for the team but also for Tracy McGrady, who has been winless in five career playoff series.

McGrady said that winning against Utah would not only mean a lot to him but also to the franchise as it would mean that the Rockets are heading in the right direction. He further added that he is a player who keeps trying to improve each year.

McGrady has led the league two times in scoring when he was playing for Orlando. However, he has a better supporting cast this year than he has ever had before.

McGrady is averaging a career high assists per game with 6.5. Most of them have been to Yao Ming, who has turned into the league's best center. When teams have decided to double team Yao Ming, McGrady got the results by passing to Rafer Alston, Luther Head and Shane Battier for 3 pointers and Chuck Hayes and Juwan Howard for easy baskets underneath.

McGrady thinks that the Rockets have the calibre to become a championship team but depending on how disciplined, focused and how badly they want to make it to the championship, the playoffs will unfold for the Rockets.
